The Seven Crystals

Author's note: This story isn't takes place after OoT- you'll find some references of that here and there- and is set in a kingdom to the North-East of Hyrule, Arrün. Pretty typical fantasy/adventure tale, but I'm trying to mix in some darker elements in as well.^^

And also, this story is being edited on the go, as more ideas come to me, and old ones are discarded.

Being an account of the invasion of our lands by the Sorcerer. Extract from the Chronicles of Arrün, form the University of Vardäe.

Long ago, in ancient times, the sorcerer Vaati came from the North with his great army of demonic creatures and invaded our land of Arrün. It is unknown where he came from originally, but the might of his sorcery was such that none could withstand him.

One by one, the seven regions of Arrün fell, and the people enslaved by him. At last, the demonic army, with Vaati himself at the lead, marched upon the city of Vardäe. There, they laid seige upon it, threw down the gates of bronze, came to the very palace, and murdered the High King and all his family, However, upon hearing that the sorcerer's army was to attack the city, the Queen Arlin and her daughter had been evacuated, and so the royal bloodline was saved.

In desperation, the High Mages of the seven regions - now outlaws hunted by the sorcerer's generals - bade seven questors to travel to the separate regions and to retrieve from each one a fabled magical crystal. These seven crystals were reputed to have a great power - indeed some people say that they are the source of all the magic in Arrün - and even more so when united. Power enough, the Mages hoped, to stop the sorcerer.

After many trials, the questors united the seven crystals and, with their power, defeated Vaati. Then, with the same magical power that had defeated him, they sealed him in the Northern Mountain, where his dark palace was, and so brought peace back to Arrün.

Thus it has remained for five millennia. Today, Arrün prospers once more under the rule of King Sathen. The descendants of the seven questors - now called the Seven Bearers - guard the crystals, and the sorcerer is no more than a bad memory...
