					   About

"The Legend of Hamlet" is a computer game based on William Shakespeare's
famous tragedy "Hamlet: Prince of Denmark." I did this as a "creative"
project for my senior English AP class, but I also did it for the enjoyment
of making a game. Using the Graal engine (see the Credits section for more
information), I worked full-time for six days making levels, coding NPCs
(non-player characters), and getting around Graal's frustrating limitations.

This is meant to be a single-player experience, so it wasn't made to work
online. I apologize if the gameplay is too easy or too hard; after all,
this was an English project that took six days to make, not a
fully-developed game. "The Legend of Hamlet" should help one's understanding
and appreciation of Shakespeare's play, the play "Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead," and video games in general.

			    Installation / How to Play

"The Legend of Hamlet" requires Graal 2001 in order to run, so first go to
Graal's web site at http://www.graal2001.com, download the installation
file, and install Graal 2001. When that's done, simply extract this ZIP file
into your Graal directory.

NOTE: THIS VERSION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH GRAAL CLASSIC.

Actually playing the game is a little bit more complicated. Follow
these steps:
(1) Load Graal by double-clicking on its icon.
(2) Delete any nickname you might have (not required, but recommended for
maximum enjoyment).
(3) Press the Training button to begin a training session.
(4) Once you are in the game, press F4 to open the editor.
(5) Press the Open button (it should look like a folder with an arrow),
locate the hamlet directory, enter this directory by double clicking on it,
and find "start.graal" and double click on that.
(7) Maximize the window by pressing the square button in the upper right
(recommended).
(8) Press the Play button in the upper right, and if another dialog box pops
up, just press Load. The game should now begin.

In case you don't know the default controls, S is sword, D is special item,
A is lift, Q is choose special item, and the arrow keys move. Say something
by clicking on the white bar at the bottom of the screen and typing. You can
also use a gamepad. Find out more by reading Graal's documentation.
